João Costa Reis has been an entrepreneur for more than 20 years, focusing his business mostly in distressed assets.Early in his career, he was a service provider to Portuguese courts and to major law firms (national and international). In 1994 Joao founded Domusvenda Ltd and until 2003 the company was responsible for the management of over 2.000 real estate properties.In 1997, João Costa Reis was introduced to the NPLs business and implemented it for the first time in Portugal through a partnership with Goldman Sachs. In 2003, the first NPL portfolio was acquired to a Portuguese bank. From then on, several portfolio acquisitions were made and João established more important investment partnerships, namely with Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs.In 2006, João Costa Reis constituted his own holding company and thus formed Group Domus. Afterwards, he continued to establish relevant partnerships, especially with Apollo Management, Värde Partners and Jupiter Finance. By the end of 2010, Group Domus was already managing €3.5 billion of outstanding amount.In October 2011, João decided to leave Group Domus to pursue a new business – consultancy to investors. He founded Present Value Ldt, a family office dedicated to search and introduce investment opportunities to national and international investors, not only in the NPL market but also in other sectors. He sold his Present Value's position in early 2015 reassuming his role of C.E.O at Domusvenda, S.A.João Costa Reis is also a shareholder of the biggest Portuguese media group.His entrepreneur qualities, as well as the fact of having developed the NPL business in Portugal, led to the his election as one of the 6 finalists of Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2008 – Portugal. In parallel with his activity, João constituted a Foundation (Fundação Agir Hoje), dedicated to help people with over indebtedness problems. João Costa Reis speaks Portuguese (native) and fluent English, German, Dutch, Spanish and French.
